Artist: Carl Verster

Carl lives and works in Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa. Inspired by the unlimited potential of a blank canvas, he learned a love of both nature and art from his parents, who exposed him to the wonders of both.

He has a passionate love for wild places and it's a natural expression of that passion that often tends to narrow his focus to wildlife painting. He says he sometimes gets hooked on a particular element (zebra stripes, or the play of shadow and light for example) and work different takes on that theme until he is compelled to move to the next theme.

Although he almost exclusively focuses on wildlife as a subject, he does the occasional, nudes, portraits & landscapes, but is inevitably drawn back to wildlife. Although he does try not to limit himself media wise, he is happy working with anything that will make a mark. He has, of late been dedicating his attention to oils, which he loves.

Carl loves writing almost as much as he loves painting, and sometimes penns a poem for his paintings:

"This Kiss"
Carl Verster: "This Kiss"Where do two souls touch?" he prayed
"The skin, fingers entwined?"
"Or here?" gestures to the eyes
"Here" she smiles
"This kiss" she says "this kiss of mine"
