Artist: Heidi Kern

For Heidi, it's all about moulding and shaping colours and textures until the final image is reached. It's all about passion, almost like creating a sculpture but with the use of colour to create the shapes rather than clay or rock.

"I try to apply colours like words that shape poems, like notes that shape music." Joan Miro

She is also inspired by the human form, especially women. Women are strong yet gentle, tough yet soft. She tries to depict the women in her paintings as though they have been carved out of stone yet soft enough to reach out and touch. She tends to dive head first into her paintings. Being mostly self taught, she feels she has the freedom to explore and create as she pleases.

For her the blank canvas is exciting. She does not use a palette, but prefer to mix her colours on the canvas as she goes along - with this she creates the feeling of moulding and sculpting.

Her wish is that every brushstroke will fill you with as many moments of joy and passion to look at as it gave her to create.
