Artist: Ia Crous Ia celebrated her first decade in the wonderful world of arts this year. Her works are, as she puts it: "An interpretation of reality"and therefore not realistic. Ia does not classify her art as part of any of the "isms", but she says, is rather determined by emotions, colour, subject and medium. She likes to keep her work without a specific style, which she says, keeps painting interesting. Her art can be anything from abstract to recognizable places or subjects. She only paints what she has experienced, paints impulsively with impatience and little detail yet following her intuition. She says her paintings end up being scenic, rather than a copy of reality. Ia was fortunate to attend study courses in France, Germany, The Netherlands (where she met up with artist, Anel Smit) and Poland which gave her the opportunity to study and discuss with fellow artists all the works of the old and modern masters. She also attended the 4th International Conference on the Arts in Society in Venice during 2009. Ia is currently involved with the Odeion Art Trust, which has it roots at the University of the Free State. They took part in the Volksblad Arts Festival with huge success and has been participating since 2007.
