Artist: Ronel Kellerman

Ronel finished her BA in Fine Arts at Pretoria University in 1996 and has since kept herself busy with mural painting and commercial commissions. She began working at Dionysus Sculpture Works in 1999 specialising in colour manipulation of metals, specifically bronze.

In 2005 Ronel made the decision to paint for herself again and began exhibiting at the end of 2005. She has since left DSW and is now painting fulltime. Her work revolves around moments in time, figures and mood.

She uses close friends as models; this lends to the intimate mood as both the artist and the models are therefore more comfortable. It is a snapshot of a quiet moment in a familiar surrounding capturing the fall of light on a face, or the intricate patterns draped fabric. Ronel’s work can be seen as pretty but is stripped from sentimentality. The concept is more a mood or feeling than intellectual.
